Framing Statement:
For my papers especially in this essay I tried to incorporate a great deal of quotations into my essay to provide strong valid evidence to another source to make my statement become stronger. Using quotes in this was used to not only improve my claim but with the incorporation of well known names such as Yo-Yo Ma it in a way adds a bit more of validation to my statement as much more people would believe Yo-Yo Ma over myself. The quote I want to look specifically at is by Ma which states “these discoveries suggest that a new way of thinking is possible, a new consciousness-perhaps a new Enlightenment- that brings the arts and science back together”. The use of this quote went along with the lesson we had learned of using quotations as a “quote sandwich” by the way I had incorporated it into my paragraph. It had started off with a claim of how art incorporates empathy into a person’s characteristics and then followed by a brief intro of Yo-Yo ma then the quote following, and then ending off with incorporating my own thoughts towards the quote making it into a “sandwich”. The use of this quote was successful, because it played a great deal into what my claims where leading up to in my essay and was on the same side of my argument towards if the sciences needed the arts.
